Magdeburg is the capital of the German state of Saxony-Anhalt. The city is located in the center of Germany. You can quickly reach the metropolises of Berlin and Leipzig. The central location is only one of many special features of the Otto city. With over 240,000 inhabitants, Magdeburg convinces with a high standard of living and good infrastructure. The state capital on the Elbe offers an optimal size and good quality of life for families.

The urban appearance of the city of 240,000 inhabitants is characterized by outstanding architecture and urban ensembles from a wide variety of architectural and historical eras. Here the old medieval Magdeburg at the cathedral, there stately villas from the time of the industrial expansion in the late 19th century, mixed with modern buildings, framed by spacious metropolitan streets. The architectural mix is most clearly visible at Domplatz.

The city center was completely rebuilt after its destruction in World War 2. The reconstruction of the completely destroyed city center still characterizes the image of the city today.

Magdeburg is a green city on the river. The Elbe promenade and the Elbe meadows are among the favorite places of the people of Magdeburg. In between, there are always spacious parks that invite you to be outside, especially in the summer months.

Infrastructure

Magdeburg is located in the heart of Germany and is easy to reach from all directions. The Magdeburg interchange connects the city to the west and east with the A2 toward Hanover and Berlin and to the south with the A14 toward Leipzig and Dresden. In the next few years, the A14 is to be extended northward to Wismar, near the Baltic Sea.

As the center of the region, Magdeburg is located on numerous federal highways which connect the city with the surrounding towns.

Within the city, a well-developed public transport network, numerous footpaths and cycle paths as well as major and minor roads provide a good infrastructure.

The city is not only easy to discover on foot; the bicycle is also a good choice for getting from A to B in Magdeburg. Excursions along the Elbe Cycle Path, which runs right through the city, are attractive.

Magdeburg is a good place to live and work. There is sufficient living space at affordable rents, good childcare with a large number of kindergartens and a large number of doctors of all specialties. 

Safety

Since April 2020, the public order office and the Magdeburg police department have been working more closely together. As a "city watch," officers from the state capital and the police perform their duties together. Employees of the public order office and the Magdeburg police department go on patrol together and thus strengthen the sense of security of the citizens of Magdeburg and their guests.

The Ordnungsamt is responsible for violations such as illegal garbage dumping, disturbances of the peace, incorrectly parked cars, unsecured properties and buildings and other things from which dangers can emanate. Complaints and grievances can be reported to the Ordnungsamt by telephone.
