The Eulenspiegel fountain can be found at the corner of Alter Markt (old market), facing the old and venerable Town Hall.
Erected in 1970 and designed by Heinrich Apel, the fountain is dedicated to the famous 14th century jester Till Eulenspiegel who also played his merry pranks on the townsfolk of Magdeburg. Legend has it that he came to the Alter Markt and told the citizens of Magdeburg he could fly from the roof of the Town Hall. Quite a number of citizens came to the old market at the promised hour to see this happen. But in the end they were just mocked and ridiculed by Eulenspiegel for their incredible gullibility.
