At the beginning of his last season at Magdeburg Theatre, Jan Jochymski is yet again directing a major ensemble production based on an iconic film in the form of “Sonnenallee”, which premiered on 27th September 2013.
The theatre is also celebrating the 200th birthday of the dramatist Georg Büchner by performing the production “Woyzeck” directed by Dominik Günther. The new season additionally features a play that brings the Magdeburg Trilogy by Jo Fabian to a close. After the successful performances of both “The Guericke Labyrinth” and “Otto’s Dream” in the “Schauspielhaus”, the third and last production in the trilogy, “Otto's Echo”, is leaving the venue in order to explore an interesting historic location in the city of Magdeburg from a new angle and to bring it to life with an artistic play.
The 2013/2014 season also features young contemporary drama and again boasts both a premiere and a German-language premiere with its respective productions of “Lorna’s Silence” and “The Pursuit of Happiness”. On top of all this, the theatre is also staging the premieres of two modern classics that take different approaches to exploring the problems of social cohabitation: “The Beaver Coat” by Gerhart Hauptmann and “Saint Joan of the Stockyards” by Bertolt Brecht.
