Magdeburg is located at the point where the Romanesque Road´s northern and southern route intersect, thus forming its centre. As the old imperial city, the favourite palatinate of Otto the Great, as a centre of important Romanesque buildings and architecture and as a venue for spectacular exhibitions, Magdeburg - the capital of Saxony Anhalt, is also a hub of intellectual activity along the Romanesque Road. The Romanesque House, which has an interesting history of its own, is located on the cathedral square in the immediate vicinity of Magdeburg Cathedral, which is home to the grave of Otto the Great, and the Convent Our Dear Lady. The information centre provides visitors with both an insight into the world of the Middle Ages and tourist information on the Romanesque Road.

Today’s Romanesque Art Centre is the former official building of bailiffs (Möllenvogte), archiepiscopal stewards who were residing at Domplatz square since the 14th century. The oldest parts of the building, the cellar vaults, date from the 13th century. The edifice was fully refurbished and put to its new use in 2007. It forms part of the historic Domplatz square ensemble and boasts a view of the cathedral and the old river Elbe fortifications.

No admission is charged for the Exhibition.
