Twin cities

 Le Havre

Le Havre  since 9th May 2011

The city Le Havre is situated in the heart of the Normandy. With its port, the city is the gateway between the North Sea and the Atlantic. Thanks to its vividness and world heritage architecture, Le Havre is a seaside resort with charm. A lot of connecting factors are starting points for this town twinning relationship in Europe.

Harbin

Harbin

since 2nd July 2008

Harbin is the "Ice City" as well as the Summer Capital full of charme but completely different like everything in China. Despite being separated by a distance of approx. 7500km, the two cities are united by the twinning agreement. This partnership gives Magdeburg the chance to familiarise itself with a foreign Eastern culture.

 Radom

Radom

 since 8th June 2008

Residents of these two cities are connected by a partnership which has grown remarkably quickly and successfully. The major factors involved in this partnership are arts, culture and the economy.

Zaporizhia

Saporoshje

since 29th May 2008

The foundations of this city twinning partnership were laid by economic connections between the two cities. It is proving to be an exciting challenge to get to know and understand the East Ukrainian city.

Nashville

Nashville

since 28th May 2003

This bridge over the Atlantic was made official in 2003. The partnership is stimulated by interesting, lively and friendly connections between the citizens of the two cities.

Braunschweig

Braunschweig

since 8th December 1987

Magdeburg and Braunschweig were twin cities even before German reunification. There are links between the cities as a result of their rivers and harbours. Since the completion of the Mittelland Canal, the cities are directly connected by water.

Sarajevo

Sarajevo

since 29th September 1977

The promising city twinning partnership between Magdeburg and Sarajevo is Magdeburg's oldest partnership and has experienced many highlights since it began. It has, however, also had to overcome several devastating low points, above all the Bosnian War during the 1990s.
